Pulling a fast one
Matt has a bone to pick with Yahoo’s Fantasy Auto Racing.
So I decided to try my hand at some fantasy NASCAR this season. I don’t know much about the sport, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try to get into it enough for a fantasy team.
I’m competing in a group by myself, because I don’t really know any NASCAR fans. Luckily, Yahoo allows you to play against the national leader board as well.
My team, “Ovals of Violence,” started off the season on a high note. I correctly predicted that Dale Earnhardt Jr. would win the Daytona 500.
Needless to say, I was feeling myself a little bit.
Qualifying for the next event was on Friday and the race is on Sunday, so I figured I would set my lineup for this week on Saturday once I knew how the field was shaping up. To my horror, though, my team was locked on Saturday.
In fact, when I checked the rules, my team had locked at 5 a.m. on Friday. You should note that this is before qualifying.
How am I, a dude that knows next to nothing about NASCAR, supposed to pick a team before the racers even qualify for the race? This is a sham, and I beg Yahoo to take the proper steps to correct this farce.
Otherwise, I’m going to have to actually dedicate some of my time to researching NASCAR, which sounds less than appealing.
For the time being, I’m stuck with Dale Jr. again this week. I guess I’m lucky that the guys on my team are at least racing this weekend.
Who knows, though. Maybe my lucky streak will continue.
